About Me

My name is Linda Fredrikke, and I am an enthusiastic assistant professor in Norwegian language didactics, with second language acquisition as my field of expertise. I have more than twenty years of teaching experience from primary school, upper secondary school, adult education and university, and I have developed the Kurskollektivet Handbook with a language portfolio and self-produced learning materials based on the principles of CEFR.

A few years ago, I was involved in developing and teaching a further educational program for teachers in adult education, with the aim to enhance language teachers' didactic competencies. I offer lectures and workshops for teachers in addition to Norwegian classes for adults.

Kurskollektivet has always been close to my heart, cultivated with great attention and personal commitment since I founded the company in 2012. So far, more than 800 adult immigrants have attended our Norwegian courses.

Teaching and Learning

It is important to develop both general and communicative language competencies as well as plurilingual and pluricultural competence to build language proficiency, and my approach to language teaching and learning has always reflected that. Our students work with their own Kurskollektivets Language Portfolio (KLP), planning, monitoring and evaluating their own learning process throughout the duration of the course.

The KLP is based on the European Language Portfolio, and has been av fundamental part of Kurskollektivet's methodology since I made the first version in 2012. The method has been evaluated and further developed in collaboration with more than 800 students, and aims to develop metacognitive skills and encourage the application of various language learning strategies.

Learning strategies are tools and techniques the learner use and develop in their learning process, both individually and in collaboration with other learners. Our goal is to promote learner autonomy, and create a supportive and creative learning environment that engages both teachers and students.

What comes next?

Working with art and cultural comprehension in addition to learning formal and informal language structures is motivating, and provides unique opportunities for our learners to express themselves and communicate with others in various contexts.

I am currently working on two exciting projects. One is called "Appelsin", where musical activities are used as tools for language learning. The other one is a plurilingual language cafe that will be launched in March 2026, starting with Norwegian, Italian and Spanish. We aim to put a twist on the traditional concept of language cafes, where some participants are learners and others are mentors or teachers - everyone will be speaking both their primary language and a target language, so everyone is a learner in Kurskollektivet's version. This will be fun!
