Your teacher

Hi! My name is Ilaria, and I'm a native English/Italian language teacher who has been working in language education both in classrooms and online for over nine years. I have considerable experience in helping learners of all ages and levels achieve their English language learning goals, be they related to school, work, travel or migration. I can, for example, help you prepare for holidays or trips to Italy; supplement young learners' language skills development in addition to what they are already studying at school or at home; assist older students with homework and academic writing; or coach professionals on how to best communicate during meetings, presentations or interviews. I also offer exam preparation courses for those aiming to take the Cambridge English A1-C2, IELTS or TOEFL proficiency tests, among others.

Coming from a multicultural background introduced me to different languages from an early age: I was born in Italy to Italian and Nigerian parents, but raised between both Italy and the UK—bilingually—which has given me a deep understanding of both Italian and English-speaking cultures. My interest in languages then led me to study Linguistics and Culturally Mediation at the University of Milan, and more recently, after having learned Norwegian independently, to complete a Master’s degree in Multilingualism at the University of Oslo. My studies have made me passionate about research-based teaching methods, translanguaging and the incorporation of new digital technologies and tools in language learning.

Our Method

Mapping and personal plans

Mapping: All our learners have a 1-to-1 meeting with one of our teachers before they start learning with us. This is so that we can assess your current language level, discuss your needs and make sure your chosen course or lesson type is suitable for you.

Work Schedule: We create and adjust realistic, personalised plans together, with effective activities that will support your learning inside and outside the classroom.

Learning Outcomes: In all our courses, you will gain knowledge of the language you are studying as both a system, and as language in use. You will find more information about what we work on at each language level by clicking on the courses below.

Guidance and assessment

Guidance: Our teachers are available to answer any doubts or questions you might have. You will be able to use our online language learning platform Moodle between classes to post messages and chat.

Self-assessment: We help you learn how to reflect on your own learning strategies and choices, so you can understand what works best for you—and what doesn't.

Teacher Assessment:

Practical information

Material: All learning materials are included in the price. Kurskollektivet provides its own digital Handbooks, which contain flexible learning resources and exercises produced by our teachers, based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Our materials can adapt to meet your needs and are accessible 24/7 via Moodle.

Teaching: Typically, courses take place online, and we work with both individuals and groups of a maximum of 8 participants. If you are interested in in-person classes, send an email with your request to receive more information.
